Oral Surgery in Bel Air, MD: Comprehensive Surgical Care Under One Roof

Most dental patients expect to be referred out of their dentist’s office for surgical procedures. At Elevated Smiles Dentistry in Bel Air, MD, that is rarely necessary. Dr. Joshua Englander performs a comprehensive range of oral surgical procedures in-house, from routine tooth extractions to advanced bone grafting and reconstructive procedures. Fewer offices, fewer referrals, and a team that knows your full dental history from start to finish.

What Oral Surgery Procedures Does Elevated Smiles Offer?

Tooth Extractions

Simple and surgical extractions for teeth that are too damaged, infected, or crowded to be saved. Dr. Englander ensures you are fully comfortable before and during the procedure.

What Should I Expect at an Oral Surgery Appointment?

Every oral surgery procedure at Elevated Smiles Dentistry begins with thorough numbing of the treatment area. Sedation options including nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation are available for patients who want additional comfort. Before your appointment, Dr. Englander will review your health history, current medications, and any relevant imaging to ensure the procedure is planned correctly. You will receive detailed pre-operative and post-operative instructions in advance. Most surgical appointments take between 30 minutes and two hours depending on the procedure, and most patients return to normal activity within a few days.

How Do I Prepare for Oral Surgery at Elevated Smiles?

For simple procedures like extractions, no special preparation is usually needed beyond avoiding food and water in the hours before if sedation is being used. For more involved surgeries, Dr. Englander may ask you to stop certain medications beforehand, arrange for someone to drive you home, and take any prescribed antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medication as directed. All specific instructions will be provided at your pre-surgical consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Surgery

Will I be awake during oral surgery?

For most procedures you are awake but completely numb. If you choose oral conscious sedation you will be deeply relaxed and may have little memory of the procedure. General anesthesia is not used in our office, but most procedures are very manageable with local anesthesia alone.

How long does recovery from oral surgery take?

A simple extraction heals in about one to two weeks. More involved surgeries like bone grafts or sinus lifts may require two to four weeks of restricted activity and several months for full bone maturation.

Can I drive myself home after oral surgery?

If only local anesthesia was used, yes. If you chose oral sedation, you must have someone drive you. Plan ahead for this when scheduling.

Is oral surgery covered by dental insurance?

Coverage depends on the procedure and the reason for it. Extractions and bone grafts tied to necessary dental treatment are typically covered at least partially. Purely cosmetic oral procedures may not be covered. Our team reviews your benefits before scheduling.

Do I need a consultation before oral surgery?

Yes. Most oral surgical procedures require a consultation appointment first so Dr. Englander can review your imaging, assess the treatment site, and discuss the procedure, risks, and recovery plan with you before scheduling the surgery itself.
